Wax sits on your paint and washes off in weeks. A ceramic coating chemically bonds to the clear coat and stays there for years, forming a sacrificial layer that takes the abuse instead of your factory finish.
What you notice first is the water. Rain beads and rolls off instead of sitting and drying into spots.
What you notice over the following winter is that road salt, brake dust and tree sap stop etching into the paint — they sit on the coating and come off with a rinse. Washing goes from an afternoon to twenty minutes.
The other half of the job is preparation, and it's the half most shops rush. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so the paint has to be washed, decontaminated, clay-barred and corrected before a single drop goes on. If a shop quotes you a coating in two hours, they are skipping this.
We cure under infrared heat lamps rather than leaving the vehicle to air-cure for five or six hours. The bond tightens faster and harder, and you get your car back the same day.
