Bring the Paint Back.
Most of what makes older paint look dull isn't dirt. It's thousands of fine scratches in the clear coat — from automatic car washes, dry wiping and years of grit — that scatter light instead of reflecting it.
Correction removes a controlled amount of clear coat to level those defects out. Done properly with the right pad, compound and machine speed, the result is paint that looks deeper and darker than it has in years. Done badly, it burns through the clear coat entirely, which is why this is not a job for a rotary buffer and hope.
Correction is also the step that should always come before a ceramic coating — a coating seals in whatever it goes over.
